2026: A Transformative Year for the Global Printing Industry

In 2026, the global printing industry is undergoing a major shift toward digitalization, intelligence, and sustainability. Technological innovation and green development have become the core driving forces reshaping the entire sector.

The Shanghai International Advertising & Printing Exhibition (APPPEXPO 2026), held from March 4 to 7, stood as the most important industry event in early 2026. Located at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, the 170,000-square-meter show attracted over 1,400 exhibitors and 110,000 visitors. Under the theme “Borderless Printing,” the exhibition displayed the latest advancements in high-speed printing, smart materials, and eco-friendly solutions.

High-speed digital inkjet equipment was a highlight, achieving a production speed of 4,500 meters per hour for flexible packaging. Artificial intelligence has also been widely applied. AI design systems demonstrated at the show can generate complete packaging and advertising plans within 10 minutes, greatly improving design and production efficiency. Automated color matching, quality inspection, and equipment monitoring have become standard in modern printing factories.

Sustainability has become a necessary requirement for the industry. APPPEXPO 2026 featured a large number of green printing materials, including biodegradable films, water-based inks, and recyclable materials. More than 80% of printing enterprises have adopted eco-friendly products, significantly reducing pollution and carbon emissions.

The market structure continues to change. Traditional large-volume offset printing is declining, while digital printing is growing rapidly. It is expected that global digital printing penetration will reach 65% in 2026. Smart packaging, combining printing with anti-counterfeiting and traceability technology, has become a new growth area.
Overall, 2026 marks a new era for the printing industry. APPPEXPO 2026 has shown a clear future: digital, intelligent, and green. With continuous technological progress, the printing industry will move toward a more efficient and sustainable development path.
